        World Agro-cultural Heritage Protection Forum

          World Agro-cultural Heritage Protection Forum, a most important activity of the First Chinese Farmers’ Art Festival, was held at Beijing Nongzhang Hotel on June 15, 2010. Mr. Chen Xiaohua, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China; Ms. Victoria Sekitoleko, Representative of FAO, Beijing Branch; Mr. Singher, Representative of UNESCO, Beijing Branch; Mr. Clarence Baguila, regional executive director of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Philippines; and Academician Li Wenhua, director of the Institute for the Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the forum and delivered speeches.

          Ms. Sun Lingping, Vice Inspector of the Department of Community Culture, Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China; Shen Zhenzhao, Secretary of Chinese Communist Party Committee, China Agricultural Museum; Tang Ke, Director of China Agricultural Museum; Xiang Yunju, Secretary General of China Society for Studies of Folk Literature and Art; Zhang Lijun, Vice Director of China Agricultural Museum; and officials and experts from international organizations, universities and institutes, officials from seven Chinese counties: Qingtian of Zhejiang, Honghe of Yunnan, Wannian of Jiangxi, conserved areas of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, and Congjiang of Guizhou as a candidate of GIAHS, attended the forum, too. Over 80 delegates attended the forum.

          During the forum, more than 20 experts and scholars in the field of agricultural heritage conservation, agricultural history, and agricultural folklores, have given academic lectures and discussions on the values of agricultural heritage, conservation and utilization of agricultural heritage, biological diversity of agricultural heritage, and other related research in this field.
