Sponsored by CAM, China Folk Literature and Art Society, and Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Exhibition of Chinese Farmers Arts was held for a week, at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, from July 2, 2008 to July 8.

Centered on agricultural civilization, the exhibition highlighted three elements: experiencing folk customs, appreciating rural arts, and promoting the Olympic spirit. The exhibition included three parts: the art works exhibition of rural craftspeople, the exhibition of farmers’ paintings, and the exhibition of agricultural posters. It covered an area of 6400 square meters. There were all together more than 3,000 items of farmers’ works, which included paper cuts that reflected agricultural production and rural lives, Spring Festival pictures, shadow puppets, weaving and embroidery craftworks, textile printing, kites, clay sculptures, cloth artworks, bamboo-braided and grass-braided works, wicker works, rattan plaited articles, carving articles of wood, stones, eggshell, melon rind, fruit, and vegetable, mini models of traditional farming tools, farmer paintings, agricultural posters, and farmers’ unique techniques.

During 2008, when Beijing Olympics was being held, as part of the national Olympics publicity program - the 2008 Olympics Culture Festival - in Beijing, the exhibition provided a national platform for rural artists to show and exchange their art works, and opened a new window for the world to get to know China, the Chinese countryside, Chinese folk culture, and farmers arts. In addition, CAM collected a large number of valuable works of farmers, and developed a whole new field in terms of the CAM display. More than 500 pieces of precious artworks from the exhibition have been included in the picture album published for the exhibition.
